What's Jason up to? http://www.myspace.com/darkthingsbetrayDark Things Betray was born in Memphis when writer/guitarist Jason Hughes (Dust For Life) hooked up with vocalist Wade Odum in late 2006. Jason, a founding member of Dust For Life, tasted success with that band beginning in 2000 when DFL's debut was released (Wind Up Records). DFL's self-titled debut recorded 70,000 scanned and 100,000 copies sold, reaching #7 on the Active Rock Billboard chart. DFL made two videos (Step Into the Light, Seed) and toured extensively, opening for a number of established bands, among them, Nickelback, Creed and Three Doors Down. DFL also played shows with Stone Temple Pilots, Fuel, Kansas, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Crazytown, Saliva, Full Devil Jacket, Coldplay, Disturbed, Incubus and many others. Their three-month headlining tour was supported by Union Underground and Tantric. During this time DFL could be found on the cover of Metal Edge, featured in Guitar One and many other industry publications. The band independently released an eight-song EP in 2004 called Degrees of Black. Circumstances, though, left DFL on indefinite hiatus, but Jason continued writing, never losing the fire or determination to make music. He was looking for the right person to give his passionate insightful words a voice and he found that in Wade, an aspiring singer/songwriter. Jason and Wade started jamming right away and found that they clicked, and so began their journey as Dark Things Betray. Jason and Wade enlisted the help of fellow Memphis musicians Scott Bartlett (guitarist, Saving Abel), Gracin Grant (bassist/guitarist/songwriter, Big Ass Truck and Straight Up Buzz & a premier studio musician) and Teddy Foster, drummer from Free Sol (Jive Records/Justin Timberlake) to round out their sound. They started recording in January 2007 and are on course to finish their debut | | Thursday, October 20th, 2005 | | 6:10 pm |

New show date. July 24 the Quakefest Radio Festival- Union City ,TN WQAK. Also... The word is spreading everyone! This is from the www.anrworldwide.com newsletter for June! "MEMPHIS ROCKERS DUST FOR LIFE GARNER EARLY SUPPORT AT RADIO: Currently, unsigned/unpublished mainstream rock act Dust For Life have recorded a new album. The full-length is already finding its way to the hands of proactive Active Rock and Rock radio programmers and garnering airplay support (spin stats on BDS, Media base and Media Guide). Charlie Logan, Sr. Director New Rock Programming at XM Radio states, "We don't wait for record guys to hype 'product,' we go out and find 'music.' Our audience has been screaming at us? where can we get this [Dust For Life]? We don't have a good answer for that except that maybe a major will wake-up and sign these guys soon." Also, Logan points out that Dust For Life is currently in heavy rotation on XM Radio and garnering strong phone reaction. Dust For Life's debut album, Dust For Life, which was released on Wind-Up Records a few years back, sold over 70,000 copies Stateside." | | Wednesday, May 12th, 2004 | | 11:27 pm |

To everyone from Jason:
OK. Let's have some fun and post our New Year's Resolutions........remember that once it's on the page,we have to help each other fulfill our resolutions. it has been said that when people write things down , they have a better chance of actually getting them done. We can have our own little experiment with this if you guys want to.....or you can all have some fun laughing at my resolutions and inevitable shortcomings that will surely follow during th course of the year..... :0) At the end of each year, I usually like to reflect on the past year and think about my blessings and my stumbling points-hopefully there are more good things than bad. I usually try to get some bearing on my life and what I have accomplished and what I intend to do with my time left on this earth. Some years are better than others. For example, since the 1st record came out in late 2000-I have been very blessed with friendships, music, spiritual growth, learning humility, setting better life values to live by, BUT i have been kicked square in the nuts financially and have really been tested and challenged by what my professional career might be. I have personally decided that I need 2 lists, one for the physical things I want to do/avoid and the other for the spiritual goals I want to remember or accomplish. so, with that in mind-read on and laugh if you wish........... my physical list: 1. be a good dad( i have 2 incrediably bright boys-Jackson and Palmer) 2. be a good boyfriend( I have been blessed with an awesome loving girl,Robyn) 3. be a good friend ( always be there to listen and help) 4. stay drug-free 5. stay cigarette free 6. get in better shape 7. hopefully be able to be a fulltime musician again 8. write better songs 9. actually learn how to play guitar 10. read a few good books now for the Spiritual list: 1. Spend more time with the things money can't buy: LOVE, Forgiveness, family. 2. find and accept God's purpose for my life. this one's tough because I hope it's music-but what if it's not? what if it's managing Burger King? i hope not but I want to be able to accept whatever place He puts me in(i wish he would hurry up and decide ). 3. do my best to love , trust , obey, and worship God; even when I have no sense of His presence in my life at a given moment. This one's very hard for me because of the highs of being able to play music for you guys and the lows of lonely nights wondering what in the heck He's doing and wondering why i don't fit in anywhere in this world. 4. not be afraid to share what God has done for me-in the face of ridicule and insecurity. this is hard to do because you never know how others are going to react to what you say. i know i would have nothing if not for my personal faith in God but i am sometimes afaid to share it bc i don't want to be laughed at or be labeled a "CREED like" holy roller (anyone who knows me knows better than that....ha ha) I try to remember that there are no "perfect" christians. we are all "saints with crooked halos." you guys know that DFL is NOT a "Christian" band and that we are not hypocrites in any way. remember that this is MY personal list and not meant to be taken as a band diatribe. 5. always remember that happiness is more important than money. 6. Love others as myself 7. FORGIVE, FORGIVE, FORGIVE............................. ok. that's it. if anyone has something personal they want to discuss with me ask Lainie (speaktheword) to give you my personal email address...remember that i will not comment on Wind-Up and don't spam me garbage, but if you really want to know something specific that may not be able to be discussed online , aske her and if she thinks it's cool she will tell you how to contact me. God bless and support "real" bands!!! Jason | | 3:36 am |
